at least i'm not on the 8th floor

well, i finally made it. i am officially at college, typing from a dorm room. and i couldn't be happier.

today was move-in day. after receiving my key, mom, dad, uncle b, and grandma unloaded the car and lugged everything to the 5th floor. thank goodness for elevators and uncle b. my roommate and i arrived at the same time-and she is awesome, by the way. i really lucked out. i knew it was meant to be when we both unpacked black and white zebra print sheets, black comforters, and the exact same lamp. after i unpacked, i realized what i was missing, so i made a list. the list looked like this:
1. pillow
2. hangers
3. pushpins
yes. i forgot my pillow. go me. so we went to target and stocked up. the bookstore was next on the agenda; there i picked up over $800 worth of books for silly classes like microeconomics, discrete mathematics, and spanish. welcome to college?
i also went to the organic food store and picked up a gallon of organic milk. score!
after a late lunch with the fam, i said goodbye, climbed 5 flights of stairs because i could, and proceeded to organize and decorate my room. i put my broadway posters on the wall-hairspray, wicked, spring awakening, and cats-and decorated my bulletin board with my toms flag, pictures, and my name in film negatives. my desk is completely organized in such a way that promotes studying (of course), my dresser is full, my clothes and scarves are hung, and the fridge is stocked-vitamin water and milk. i think i'm good at this whole college living thing. i can make it work.
classes start on tuesday, and i am pretty excited. at least for the intro to mass communications class. not so much the microecon, math, and spanish classes. but my schedule is great-the earliest class is a 9:30, and my weekend starts on thursday at 1:45. another score!
most of the people i've met are so friendly. i guess they're just like me-excited for a new experience and eager to realize their dreams. and i know we will. Winthrop University. Class of 2012.
